Walter S. and Evan C. Jones, sons of Welsh parents, were reared on a farm north of Lebo in Coffey County, Kansas. Upon inheriting 200 acres of land at the turn of the century, Walter and Evan formed Jones and Jones, a successful farming and cattle partnership. When Walter married Olive Taylor in 1911, the partnership continued with three members.

Walter Jones died January 23, 1953, Evan, September 9, 1953, and Olive, November 1, 1957. The Jones Brothers had identical wills, and although Olive did not, she consented to her husband’s will. It was their desire to grant children (those under 21) residing in Coffey, Lyon and Osage Counties assistance with their medical expenses.

With a court ruling in 1961, education benefits were added for such residents, regardless of age. To more thoughtfully consider and administrate such grants, the Walter S. and Evan C. Jones Foundation was established April 24, 1974.
